Following the untimely death of Michael N. Koskey in 1957, a dedicated educator and tireless worker for the St. George Community of Greater Lynn, a group of men and women established this scholarship fund. The purpose of the fund is to inspire our youth to strive for the scholastic excellence and ideals exemplified by Michael Koskey’s life.
Michael Koskey was a teacher and principal in the Lynn Public Schools. He attended Salem State and Boston University and received degrees in English and Education. A lifelong resident of Lynn, Mr. Koskey brought up three children in the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where he served tirelessly. As a well-respected and loved principal of the Lincoln and Burrill Elementary Schools, this thoughtful person would place a flower in a vase on the desk of each teacher on the opening day of school. He had the ability to listen deeply to people’s concerns, give guidance and assistance to those in need, and to hold each individual in total positive regard. We hope that this scholarship in his name will keep alive Mike Koskey’s ideals, loving nature and dedication to children, family and church.
The Hellenic Scholarship Trust of Greater Lynn will award two grants of $5,000 each to students who parents are members in good standing of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn, Massachusetts.
