Health Professions Recruitment & Exposure Program (HPREP) at Harvard Medical School

Health Professions Recruitment & Exposure Program (HPREP) at Harvard Medical School is an outreach program hosted and organized by Harvard graduate, medical, and public health students. Their mission is to recruit high school students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds into science, medicine, and public health with the goal of eliminating educational disparities and increasing representation of underrepresented and disadvantaged groups in science and health professions.

Students are encouraged to apply for the HPREP 2019-2020 program, especially those who come from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. Students should not feel that they must be at the top of their class to be competitive for our program. More importantly, they seek students who, despite having experienced challenges in their lives, have a sense of scientific curiosity and the drive to reach their goals. The application portal is open from Monday, Aug 26th to Monday, Sept 30th, 2019 11:59 PM. No transcript or letter of recommendation is required. Students are reminded to submit all application materials by the deadline. Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed.

About HPREP
Since its inception, HPREP at Harvard Medical School has provided opportunities for high school students every year. The program continues to thrive and grow because of the participation of your students and your commitment.

HPREP is a free 10-week program that takes place at Harvard Medical School (Boston location) on Saturdays (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM) from November to February. The curriculum consists of interactive lectures and laboratory components, exposing students to a range of science and health-related subjects, including genetics, scientific method and experiments, vaccines, cancer biology, anatomy, sexual health, nutrition, health disparities, leadership, ethics, and college prep workshops. HPREP also provides students with one-on-one mentoring to equip them with the excitement, knowledge, skills, confidence, and community support necessary to pursue education and careers in science and health professions. The mentoring component pairs each student with a Harvard student (doctoral, masters, medical, or postdoctoral fellow), who works closely with them on applying to college, scholarship applications, and to develop a research project leading to an oral presentation at our closing ceremony.
