LGBTQ+ Support Group
On behalf of Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC), we are reaching out to ask that you help us spread the word to your students, faculty, coaches and advisors about volunteer opportunities they are invited to participate in. These opportunities will count toward students’ community service hours during 2020 and will serve as great resume boosters for future job and college applications. Students will receive a signed certificate for their volunteer hours from MBCC.
MBCC’s statewide Against the Tide events will be held on Saturday, June 20th at Hopkinton State Park and on Saturday, August 15th in Brewster at Nickerson State Park. These inspiring events are great ways for students to become active members of their community and support a cause that impacts many Massachusetts families.
Opportunities to volunteer include the following:
- Volunteer for Against the Tide the day before, the day of, or both. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Assisting with event set-up and/or take down
- Participating as a walk guide, run guide, swim guide, or paddle board guide
- Helping hand out water to event participants
- And more!
OR
- Volunteer long-term to help promote Against the Tide events by joining a combined junior high, high school, and college student committee promoting MBCC’s annual, statewide Against the Tide multisport event. This opportunity will only require roughly 3 hours of students’ time each month and has multiple components they can take part in:
- Adopting a town near where they live and posting Against the Tide posters throughout the months leading up to the event
- Assist with social media marketing
- Helping with event outreach and volunteer recruitment
- Committee members are required to volunteer at a minimum of one Against the Tide event (Hopkinton 6/20/20 or Brewster 8/15/20)
MBCC is dedicated to preventing environmental causes of breast cancer through community education, research advocacy, and public policy changes. Students’ support as active volunteers and/or committee members will help change the impact of breast cancer on generations to come.
Students interested in volunteering and/or becoming a committee member, should email MBCC’s Executive Director, Cheryl Osimo, at cosimo@mbcc.org and college committee chair, Charles McGinn, at mbcc.charles@gmail.com.
