Yawkey Scholars Program

FOR SENIORS

The Yawkey Scholars program is designed to make college affordable for talented, motivated, low-income students from Massachusetts and Georgetown County, South Carolina who are among the first generation in their family to complete a bachelor’s degree. It provides a four-year renewable tuition scholarship ($35,000 in Massachusetts and $15,000 in South Carolina per year) and other supports to help students achieve academically and go on to be successful and highly productive members of our community. Since 2005, the Yawkey Scholars Program has provided more than $13 million in tuition supports to more than 300 Scholars as they pursue a college education.

Applicants from Massachusetts must:

  • be a U.S. citizen and permanent resident of Massachusetts
  • have a private, competitive college in Massachusetts among your top four college choices
  • have someone in your life who you consider a mentor
  • have a family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $125,000 or less and/or an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $25,000 or less
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (unweighted)
  • be among the first generation in your immediate family to complete a 4-year college/university degree

Required Application Materials

  • Complete Application, submitted online
  • Teacher/Counselor Recommendation Form and optional letter of recommendation
  • Mentor Letter of Recommendation
  • Essays
  • High School Transcript
  • Pages 1 and 2 of parent/guardian(s)’ most recent IRS 1040 Fax Forms
  • Complete Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA
