You might want to further research and explore the colleges that you are interested in attending. You need to select the college that you wish to attend and mail the required enrollment and/or housing deposit to that school by May 1st.

You should receive acceptance letters and financial aid offers by mid-April. If not, you should contact those colleges from which you have not received those documents.

How can I improve my chances of getting admitted from a college’s “wait list?”

  • If a college is your first choice, let the college know that – although the college may not ask for this information. Write a letter to the director of admissions expressing your continuing strong interest and updating the admissions office with any new information that enhances you. In addition, you may wish to ask your counselor to make a call on your behalf. Many colleges keep track of these kinds of contacts, and students who are enthusiastic and persistent will get looked at first. Colleges want to admit students off the wait list who will accept the offer of admission.

If you submitted your FAFSA promptly after January 1st, you should have received your Student Aid Report (SAR), which details your Family’s Expected Contribution (EFC) for your college expenses. If you think that there are errors, immediately contact FAFSA personnel.

You and your parents need to have serious and frank discussions concerning how you will pay for college.
