Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Marine Option Scholarship

FOR SENIORS

The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Marine Option allows those with a fighting spirit the opportunity to earn a commission in the United States Marine Corps as they complete their studies at a participating college or university. If they rise to the challenge, they may become officers of the Marine Corps.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Full tuition at one of the listed colleges or universities (unless room and board is elected as the preferred scholarship benefit instead of tuition and fees).
  • All mandatory fees imposed by the School on all full-time undergraduate students.
  • Stipend for text books
    • Currently $750 per academic year ($375 per semester or $250 per quarter)
  • Provide uniforms and Naval Science textbooks
  • Three summer cruises
  • Subsistence allowance each academic month:
    • Freshmen – $250/month
    • Sophomore – $300/month
    • Junior – $350/month
    • Senior – $400/month

The Coolidge Scholarship

FOR JUNIORS

The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that recipients may use for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the United States. Any high school junior who plans to enroll in college in the fall of 2026 and is an American citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply (current high school seniors are not eligible to apply). Winners may use the scholarship to pursue any academic major.

Academic excellence is the primary criterion considered by the Coolidge Scholarship. Secondary criteria include an interest in public policy and an appreciation of the values President Coolidge championed. Successful candidates will also demonstrate humility and have a record of genuine service to their communities. A complete description of the scholarship’s criteria is available here.

The submission deadline is 5:00 PM Pacific time, Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

ASVAB (for Juniors & Seniors)

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test administered by the United States Military and used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces. The ASVAB is also administered at American high schools to help students identify academic strengths and weaknesses, in addition to career paths that may interest students as they apply to colleges or directly enter the workforce. There are nine sections of the ASVAB ranging from 10 minutes to 36 minutes. Students will be tested in the following areas: general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, mathematics knowledge, electronics information, automotive and shop information, mechanical comprehension, assembling objects, and verbal expression. If you are interested in taking the ASVAB, have your parents/guardians complete the attached permission slip and return it to Ms. Hart by 8:00 AM, Friday, September 20, 2024.

The Law Offices of Nicole M. Bluefort’s Spirit of Excellence Scholarship

FOR SENIORS

The Law Offices of Nicole M. Bluefort’s Spirit of Excellence Scholarship is an annual scholarship whose purpose is to encourage more African- to pursue higher education while easing the financial burden of the expenses associated with attending. Applicants must reside in Lynn, Massachusetts, be graduating high school seniors of African-American descent enrolling in their first semester of college and will be the first generation in their family to do so. Scholarship recipients will be awarded based on their exemplification of academic excellence and commitment to community. Candidates are asked to write a short essay describing how they plan to use their degree to help give back to their community. The application is due Monday, June 3, 2024 and winners will be announced at the end of June 2024.

SigEp Balanced Man Scholarship at UMass-Amherst

FOR SENIORS

Each fall, the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst awards the SigEp Balanced Man Scholarship to an incoming male freshman at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. This fall 2024, the scholarship awards three to four individuals, totaling $2000+ in scholarship awards. The deadline to apply is October 5, 2024, but the fraternity encourages students to apply before the end of summer to allow the fraternity to efficiently evaluate all candidates.

Myers-Bloom Scholarship

FOR SENIORS

The Myers-Bloom Scholarship honors the memories of Jimmy Myers and Kenny Bloom, two individuals who had a profound impact on the JCCNS basketball program. Jimmy was a long-time coach and mentor for children and young adults, and Kenny was an avid participant for many years who helped make the JCCNS a welcoming, fun and special place to pursue your passion for basketball.

The scholarship will award the scholastic, athletic and leadership achievements of high school student athletes with an emphasis on sportsmanship, contributions and enthusiasm both during and outside of competition.

The deadline is May 15.

Lynn English Local Scholarship Application

FOR SENIORS

The Local Scholarship Application is now available for seniors to complete. In order to be considered for any local scholarships, the below application must be fully completed and submitted to your guidance counselor by 8:00 AM, Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Local scholarships are separate from the scholarships for which you have been receiving messages since this school year started. In conjunction with guidance counselors, individuals and groups outside of Lynn English review Local Scholarship Applications to award scholarships.

Keep in mind – submitting a Local Scholarship Application does not mean that you will definitely receive a scholarship; it only means that you will be considered for scholarships. Also, most scholarships are awarded based on a student’s academic record.

Submit the completed Local Scholarship Application and all necessary documents to YOUR guidance counselor for review. DO NOT submit the application without all required documents.

As a reminder, the deadline to submit the Local Scholarship Application is 8:00 AM, Tuesday, April 30, 2024. We realize this deadline is just before the May 1 decision deadline for the college that you plan to attend. However, there are a number of local scholarships that require recipients be chosen by May 1.

NEACAC Essay Contest

FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS

NEACAC announces its Annual Essay Contest for high school juniors and seniors (grades 11 and 12). High school juniors and seniors from NEACAC-member high schools in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont are invited to submit a 500-word essay on the following topic:

Describe a trusted mentor (counselor, teacher, coach, or peer) who has had the greatest impact on your decision to attend college.
How has this individual supported your educational goals?
Please reflect on their influence/effect on your college process.

A panel of high school counselors and college admissions officers from NEACAC-member institutions will select the winning essays. Essays will be evaluated holistically, taking into consideration factors such as originality, creativity, focus, clarity, and structure. Priority will be given to applicants who hold an identity that has been historically excluded from higher education.

In addition to the $1000 scholarship awarded to the 6 New England state winners, NEACAC will award one overall winner a $2,000 scholarship.
